In January, Paul bravely made his journey over the Severn bridge in very wintry conditions to bring us an excellent watercolour workshop.
Paul is the present chairman of the South Wales Art Society. An experienced tutor, he often leads art classes on cruise ships.
The workshop began with Paul showing us photographs and asking us to choose the one we would most like to paint. Our favourite was a wintry landscape that we then drew on paper. After Paul had demonstrated various techniques he uses with brushes, credit cards etc., we set to work and under his expert guidance we all produced pleasing results.
Paul then showed us some quick techniques for painting figures – a very useful exercise. Lastly, he coached us through painting a Wild West scene. Although most of us felt that this was more of a challenge than the first task, good results were achieved by the end of the session.
We all agreed that the day had been a great success, and we hope Paul will return next year.
The venue for Dalvaro Art Painting Holidays
Dalvaro Art Painting Holidays and Art School are able to offer all tutors the opportunity to bring their own groups of students to “Las Orquideas”, our painting holiday venue in Benigánim, Valencia, Spain.
Your students will soon discover the most relaxing and enjoyable way to learn the true meaning of a painting holiday.
This is a painting vacation venue on an intimate scale with the individual personal exclusivity your group deserves.
While wandering around the magnificently landscaped gardens everyones senses will be immediately aroused and any hidden artistic talents will be stimulated and impassioned. Add to this the chance to completely relax within the beautiful terraces and intricate pathways. The gardens, which were professionally designed with the artist in mind, include many small shaded areas to paint or sketch as well incorporating wide open vistas across the local rooftops and the valley towards the Sierra Mariolas.
The fully air conditioned art studio can easily accommodate up to twelve artists and is available at all times.
For those who wish to relax between painting times there is the swimming pool and sun patio area with an array of sun loungers plus tables and chairs. Swimming pool towels are provided. For the more energetic there is the chance to play petanque (boules) and a tennis court with rackets and balls provided.
Over the years we have fine-tuned the art of improving participants experience in painting within the comfort of a “home from home” style of accommodation and service. Our expertise in hospitality allows you to concentrate on your group and their painting. Having smaller groups, eight is our ideal number, affirms our desire to give individuality to each participant, whether this is from the hosts themselves, Loli and Harold, or from our professional staff, we will afford you the intimate care and attention to detail you and your group deserve.
Private rooms, all en suite have been designed for everyones ultimate comfort and relaxation. A restful night’s sleep will always inspire and refresh you, prepped, primed and ready for a wonderful day’s painting. We’ve designed our rooms down to the minutest detail, your own private sanctuary in a wonderful location. Dalvaro’s innovative thinking and organisation provides you with more options and a more enriching overall experience than you will find anywhere else. Whichever room you are in your comfortable bed, dressed with quality eco-friendly linens and a choice of pillow type, provides the perfect place to return to after a full day of painting in the gardens or in Valencia’s stimulating rural towns and countryside. You will feel pampered by rooms equipped with coffee/tea making facilities, bathrooms with quality towels, linen and hairdryers. The rooms, which are all cleaned on a daily basis, are all en suite, include heating, which is provided for any early or late season bookings, as are extra blankets and bed covers.
What is included:

Lunch is not included on arrival or departure days. Evening meal is included on arrival day, as is breakfast on departure day, plus up to three meals per day, taken at Las Orquideas, on five course days. Meal times are flexible according to the needs of each group, generally we would have breakfast from 8:30, lunch about 2:00 and the evening meal at about 8:00. We would need to be made aware of any preferred changes to these times the day before. We do not have any restrictions on drinking (bottled) water, beer, wine, soft drinks, tea or coffee which are all provided free if taken at Las Orquideas. Liquors are not included.
You will have use of the studio as required. Field easels, chairs, sunshades, drawing boards, water pots and pallets are also available.
Use of the garden, swimming pool, tennis court and petanque terrain.
We would require a minimum of five people, including the tutor, with a maximum of twelve. This is defined by room occupation, single or shared. We have: Three rooms with double beds and five with twin beds, all rooms are en-suite. Each room is equipped with tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryers, toiletries, towels and a choice of pillow type. Five of the rooms are individually air conditioned the remainder are provided with fans, which is the preference of some people.
Therefore if everyone is single we can accommodate eight people.
